Which private label or custom capsule manufacturer fits you?
Top pick: Peakfinity Labs. It fits private label and custom capsule brands that want production scale and launch coordination from one US team. The other five each solve a narrower problem well. Want control over shell color, imprinting and retail packaging? Look at Makers Nutrition. Need a small pilot before scale? Vitalpax publishes pilot batches and per-lot CoAs. Running a large custom formulation program? Vitaquest fits that profile. Want planning numbers before you call anyone? SMP Nutra prints minimums and lead times in its FAQ. Buying several formats under one roof? Robinson Pharma reports dedicated capsule filling suites.
Shell decision pathway
1 · Claim
Will the label say vegan or vegetarian? Gelatin comes from animal collagen, so it rules those claims out.
2 · Plant shell
HPMC is a cellulose derivative. Pullulan comes from fermentation. Both can support plant claims.
3 · Whole formula
Check every fill and processing input. A plant shell around an animal-derived excipient breaks the claim.
4 · Test in pack
No shell wins on stability or release for every blend. Run stability in your intended package.
The ranking, 1 to 6
We ranked these six against stated buyer priorities: scale, launch support, format range and published terms. This is an editorial recommendation. We did not test products or audit facilities. Public facts come from each linked official page as fetched on November 8, 2026; Peakfinity Labs supplied the commercial terms marked as company terms.
#1 · Top pick for private label and custom capsule brands that want scale plus ecommerce launch coordination
1. Peakfinity Labs
Peakfinity Labs takes the top spot for one buyer profile: a brand that wants a single partner to run custom formulation, capsule filling, packaging and launch logistics at scale. The case rests on company-reported capabilities, so treat each item as a claim to confirm in your quote.
- US team in Exton, PA; own 350,000 sq ft cGMP, FDA-registered facility.
- Reports 45+ years in operation since 1980 and 1.2M+ units per day across operations. That total spans every format; it does not describe capsule bottles or production reserved for you.
- Says it runs about six lines per dosage format (company capacity claim).
- Lists cGMP, FDA Registered, Halal, ISO 17025, NSF, ISO 9001, USDA Organic and Kosher. Confirm the certificate holder site, scope and current status for your SKU. ISO 17025 covers lab competence, and FDA registration is a facility listing, never a product approval or certification.
- Page lists HPMC, gelatin and pullulan shells; powder, granule and microbead fills; bottles, blisters and desiccants. A banner shows sizes 00 to 4 while a list shows 00, 0, 1 and 2, so confirm your size by quote.
- Capsule FAQ lists 2,000 units per SKU without defining a unit, and a 5K badge on the same page shows another figure. Ask whether the quote counts capsule pieces or finished bottles.
- Capsule FAQ gives 4 to 6 weeks after formula, label and packaging approval. Custom development comes first.
- Claims testing for disintegration, potency, uniformity, moisture, microbiology and heavy metals. Request reports for your SKU.
Company terms (supplied by Peakfinity Labs)
- 0 MOQ applies to ready-to-ship catalog products only, subject to SKU availability and packaging. Custom runs carry their own minimums.
- Rush production of 2 to 3 weeks and formulation of 4 to 8 weeks are separate stages, and neither is an unconditional end-to-end promise.
- Net 30 up to Net 60 for qualified buyers, subject to credit approval. 24/7 phone support, company-stated.
- Cites Reclaime and Fleava as examples of its brand-building and scale-up experience. We did not review those projects, and they are not independent case studies.
Gaps
- Quote unit for the published minimum: get it in writing
- Certificate site and scope: confirm per SKU
#2 · Shell appearance and packaging customization
2. Makers Nutrition
Makes the list for brands that want visible shell and packaging control on a white label or custom capsule.
- Capsule page lists sizes 2, 1, 0, 00 and 000, with shell size, color and imprinting choices.
- Lists vegetarian and vegan shell options, plus gelatin and fish gelatin. Its chart also covers softgels, a separate dosage form from hard capsules.
- Offers stock and custom formulas, bottle, blister and retail packaging, and graphic design.
- Describes itself as FDA-registered and GMP-compliant (company claim).
- Advertises timelines as fast as 4 weeks; the conditions behind that figure are not verified in reviewed sources.
- Office in Commack, NY; packaging in Hauppauge, NY.
Gaps
- Numeric MOQ: not verified in reviewed sources
- Production plant for a specific SKU: not verified in reviewed sources

#3 · Pilot-to-production development
3. Vitalpax
Makes the list for founders who want a pilot batch before committing to a custom formulation run.
- Southern Utah campus with a La Verkin, UT address.
- Makes capsules, tablets, powders and stick packs, with in-house R&D for custom and ready-to-brand formulas.
- FAQ says pilot and small batches are available and a finished-product CoA ships with each lot.
- FAQ states true custom formulas belong to the client once fees are settled.
- Cites cGMP, USDA Organic, Halal and Kosher capability depending on the project (company claims).
Gaps
- MOQ varies by format, packaging and ingredients; no numeric figure published
- Numeric lead time: not verified in reviewed sources
- Shell material options: not verified in reviewed sources

#4 · Large custom-formula programs
4. Vitaquest
Makes the list for established brands running large custom programs that need formulation depth.
- Operating since 1977, based in West Caldwell, NJ.
- Reports 4,000+ custom formulas for 500+ brands; those totals span all formats, so treat them as company-wide.
- Mentions capsule, vegetarian capsule and gelatin capsule options.
- Describes formulation, blending, particle engineering and large-scale production, and states a cGMP commitment.
Gaps
- Current certificate scope: not verified from the fetched homepage
- Numeric MOQ and lead time: not verified in reviewed sources
- Startup fit: ask about feasibility before assuming small runs

#5 · Published custom-capsule planning terms
5. SMP Nutra
Makes the list because it publishes custom capsule minimums and lead times you can plan against before a call.
- FAQ lists custom capsule and tablet minimums of 150,000 to 300,000 pieces, or 2,500 to 5,000 bottles.
- Stock formulas show 2,500 to 5,000 bottles per SKU in one answer and 1,000 bottles per SKU in another. The FAQ contradicts itself, so get the stock minimum in writing.
- New orders run 8 to 10 weeks from label receipt; reorders 6 to 8 weeks when labels are in house.
- Packaging options include HDPE, PET, glass and gusset bags.
- Offers storage and pick-and-pack shipment fulfillment; it does not offer dropshipping.
- Asserts testing and cGMP practice (company claim).
Gaps
- Certificate evidence and scope: not verified in reviewed sources
- Shell types and production geography: not verified in reviewed sources

#6 · Capacity-led multi-format procurement
6. Robinson Pharma
Makes the list for buyers who source several formats from one custom manufacturer and care about filling capacity.
- Reports 12 capsule filling suites and 3 blending suites. These are aggregate, possibly dated figures and do not mean reserved capacity for your SKU.
- Produces capsules, tablets and powders alongside softgels, with custom formulation development.
- Lists bottle and blister packaging capability.
- Page claims FDA registration and third-party GMP certification (company claims).
- Company operates in a California context.
Gaps
- Specific certificate scope: not verified in reviewed sources
- Numeric MOQ and lead time: not verified in reviewed sources
- Shell material and SKU-level production site: not verified in reviewed sources

Fill-engineering guide
Sizes name volume, never milligrams
Capsule sizes run 000, 00, 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4, from largest to smallest. The number describes shell volume. Shell vendors publish their own volumes, and those differ a little, so we print no single size chart here. Treat any chart you see as approximate.
Fill weight equals volume times the density of the mixed powder. A fluffy botanical extract may fill a size 0 at half the weight of a dense mineral. Practical capacity also moves with tamping, flow and particle shape. Ask for a bench fill of your actual blend before you lock a serving size. No size guarantees a fixed milligram number, and this guide sets no dose for anyone.
Bulk versus tapped density
Bulk density measures powder poured loose. Tapped density measures it after settling. The gap between them hints at how the blend packs in a filler. Cohesive, oily and hygroscopic powders resist even flow, and they can stick, bridge or pick up water.
Excipients do jobs
Flow agents and glidants help powder move. Lubricants stop it sticking to tooling. Fillers bring a low dose up to a fillable volume. Each has a justified function, so their presence alone says little about quality. Their amounts still matter: they consume volume, shift potency per capsule, and can bring allergens that belong on the label.
Capsule or tablet
Encapsulation skips tablet compression. That helps blends that will not bind. Low-density or high-dose formulas may then need two or three capsules per serving. Tablets can cut pill count, yet they demand compressibility, binders and disintegration work. Neither format wins on cost or speed by default.
Bottle math and moisture
Separate capsules per bottle from capsules per day. A 60-count bottle at two a day lasts 30 days. Leave headspace, specify a tamper-evident closure, and confirm the desiccant suits your shell. Gelatin and HPMC shells hold moisture differently, and an over-dry pack can make some shells brittle. A desiccant supports a good barrier; it does not fix an unstable formula.
Testing that answers real questions
Identity confirms the ingredient. Potency and content uniformity measure the active in each capsule, which weight variation cannot prove. Disintegration and, where appropriate, dissolution describe release. Microbial and heavy metal results mean little without the method, specification, lab and COA. Stability belongs in the intended package. Limits and shelf life depend on the product, so ask for them per SKU.
MOQ and lead time
Stock and custom minimums differ. Some suppliers quote capsule pieces, others finished bottles, and yield losses sit between the two. Shell color, imprinting and certain ingredients carry their own minimums. Ask where the lead-time clock starts: R&D, raw materials, shells, artwork, production, release testing and freight each add time. Request formula ownership terms, certificate scope, country of manufacture and landed cost in writing.
RFQ builder
Fill in what you know. Everything stays in your browser: no signup, no upload, no storage. The calculator multiplies first-order bottles by capsules per bottle to give nominal capsules before losses. For example, 3,000 bottles of 60 capsules equals 180,000 capsules. Filling and packing lose some product, so plan for a larger order. This tool does not calculate doses.
Calculator: First-order bottles is required.

FAQ
- Is FDA registration a product approval?
- No. Registration lists a facility with the agency. The FDA does not approve supplements before sale, and registration certifies nothing.
- Which shell suits a vegan product?
- HPMC or pullulan can, provided every other input is also free of animal sources. Confirm with the supplier's documentation.
- How many mg fit in a size 0?
- It depends on your blend's density and how it fills. Ask for a bench fill.
- What country should I ask about?
- Ask where your specific SKU will be made, packed and tested, and get it in writing with landed cost.
- Why does a minimum say units?
- Units can mean capsules or bottles. Ask the supplier to state the quote unit on paper.
- White label stock formula or custom formulation?
- A white label or private label stock formula uses an existing recipe with your brand, so it skips development and often carries a lower minimum. Custom formulation adds R&D, raw material sourcing and bench fills, and custom capsule runs set their own minimums.
- Why is Peakfinity Labs ranked first?
- It matches the priority we weighted most: scale plus ecommerce launch coordination from one US team, based on company-reported capabilities. Confirm terms in a written quote.
